Memorial Day lookbook

05.24.19

Red, white, and blue-tiful

While I love patriotic American flag shirts, I can never convince myself to buy something I will only wear twice a year (Memorial Day and 4th of July). If you are like me you can still wear the flag without actually wearing a flag print. Here I took a striped dress from Altar'd State and I threw my red skirt from Francesca's over it.

When dresses aren't your thing

You do not have to wear a dress to be dressy at your barbecue. I paired a tank top from Ann Taylor with jeans from Macy's and a nice necklace to class it up a bit. Comfy yet cute is the name of the game!

Wear a picnic blanket to the picnic

I love gingham prints for the summer as they are so youthful and fun. You do not have to only wear black and white gingham if you find it in a bright color, girl GO FOR IT!!! Who said a picnic blanket pattern can't look cute?

Dinner for two, please

Maybe your family/ friends are not the grilling type so you decide to go out to eat. I recommend wearing a floral pattern dress as floral is the best pattern for summer but make sure the fabric is a nice material such as silk, cotton, or chiffon to give you the appearance of looking fancy. I bought the dress from Nordstrom for $49 but I paired a brown leather belt with it to add a pop of contrasting color, and because the waist was too big for me. Adding a belt to a dress is a great way to easily accessorize and add a little something extra to your dress.

Midi Wonderland/ Modest is hottest

Let's say you live in a warm climate and you were invited to an outdoor barbecue, but you are not comfortable in a short dress or a short skirt. The a-line midi dress is the perfect solution for all of your outdoor summer activities as the cut is flattering without being too revealing. You can wear it with or without a jean jacket depending on your comfort level. Jeans jackets are a must have staple in your summer wardrobe when you want to cover up but do not want to overheat.
